Bolton 7 working with live steam
by John
This is the first run of this engine using steam. I have previously had it going on compressed air, but there is nothing like real, live, hot steam!!
It did show up a few problems which I will have to fix. A few minor leaks, need for a displacement oiler, and need to adjust the length of the piston rod. You will hear a knocking sound in the video. I think that is due to the piston just touching the cylinder cap at the end of each stroke. Not difficult to fix, but will require a complete teardown of the cylinder=piston.

Tried a few times to download, John, but no luck. Could be my end.

Thanks John, video worked this time and so did your wonderful steam machine. Reminds me of some of the belt driven textiles machines, eg looms and dye winches, I saw in mills in Lancashire in the early sixties. They were all driven by large steam boilers via large belt systems.

Now I just need a scaled-up version to complement the line drive pulleys and belts I’ve just put in my workshop. A small steam engine would cap it off nicely!

Hi, I think your blog might be having browser compatibility issues.
When I look at your website in Safari, it looks
fine but when opening in Internet Explorer, it has some overlapping.
I just wanted to give you a quick heads up! Other then that, wonderful blog!

I looked at the blog on Internet Explorer and there was no problem. I do the posts using a Mac. No idea why you are experiencing an issue. Sorry.
