First taste of steam for the MODEL TRIPLE EXPANSION ENGINE

I made a video of this first run, but I am experiencing great frustration uploading it, due to our totally pathetic Internet speeds here in Australia. I will include it later in this post, but the resolution is way down. I will upload a higher res version next weekend.
Stuart Tankard’s superb gas fired vertical boiler, was also getting its first run powering a steam engine.
We did not connect the condenser until later.

what a fantastic sight john! it runs like a clock you should be well chuffed with yourself indeed.
how hot was the cooling water coming out of the condenser? as i said to you on the phone the other day i don’t think the two feed pumps will shift enough water to cool the condensate down to the required temp… about 64deg will give you pure water at the air pump… and about 24″ of vacuum at the LP exhaust port. fitting an electric pump will give more cooling and allow the engine to run slower and smoother with a higher boiler pressure.

Thanks Tom,.. yes, quite chuffed.. the water from the condenser was too hot to touch, so I agree that a separate pump will be required to properly cool the condenser. Since the condenser is thick gunmetal, and directly in contniuity with the HP and IP cylinders, I am not sure that even a bigger pump will cool it to the desireable degree. But I will try it.
In 1.5 hours it heated 2 full buckets of water. John.
